As part of my "Referendariat" (a two-year post graduate apprenticeship which is one component of the educational system for lawyers in Germany) I've recently had the privilege of working in a team of other passionate professionals for a music licensing company in New York City. This was one of the biggest adventures in my life and I still feel pleased and humbled by this experience.
Also, I worked in two well known Hamburg law firms which are specialized in the entertainment industry.
Currently I am writing a PhD about issues in Intellectual Property Law.
Besides all these things I gave (and I still give) advice for different kinds of musicians as a hobby: For professionals, newcomers and beginners.
Furthermore, I am a networker. I love to discern if people might be able to cross-fertilize. In my opinion networking is one of the most important skills in the entertainment industry and you should never underestimate the power of this instrument and its opportunities. Whenever I meet somebody I always ask myself: "How can I help this person? Do I know somebody who might be able to help?"
As I said, I am really passionate about music, so I want to associate these topics with my work in law as well. As a musician and as a photographer I want to let the artists feel that I understandably comprehend their thoughts and issues in another way than other jurists could do.
I know one thing for sure: I want to work in the music business. I want to live the music business. I want to inhale the scent of the music business. No matter how worn out it may sound: Music is my passion. |
